I wasn't sure what I was going to blog about. I was planning a lot on my artistic projects and things like that, but I seem to be focusing more on my personal life. Maybe I shouldn't have blogged about my flea problem, but then I doubt that anyone will read this, other than the few friends I have chosen to share it with.
One thing I haven't mentioned is how stressful it has been at work part of the time. In my new job as head of the Microform unit it has been really quiet. Apparently in just the last year, the usage of microforms has dropped to half what it was the previous year. I want to come up with some ideas on how to encourage people to use microforms more and need to investigate that. For the past 2 months they have been remodeling the area, removing one wall, adding another, etc. I was hoping that by the beginning of the school year it would all be back in place because I know at least one professor in the history department, Dr. Campbell, is going to have his students use this area extensively. He was quite surprised when he stopped by in July to see me here. I had worked as a research assistant for him for about 2 years, and he also oversaw the writing of my thesis. He came in very concerned for the future of the Microforms area and was quite pleased to see me here, if I don't say so myself.
In other big library news, the university has decided to take the 2nd floor of the Sci/Tech Library away from the library! It was announced last Monday and the floor has to be vacated by October 1st. The good news is that the Sci/Tech Librarians will be temporarily located in the lower level of Willis with me until their new offices are ready, probably not before the Spring semester. The juvenile and CMC collections will also be moved down here. The other good news is that the adaptive lab will be located in the former electronic classroom, just as we on the Library as Place task force recommended. The bad part of that is that there will no longer be a electronic classroom in Sci/Tech at all, but the librarians will be down on the 1st floor, closer to the desk.
